Latest & message from Hannah
Many of you may not be aware that Zip was involved in a serious road accident on Wednesday evening whilst taking part in the Kildwick time trail.
He was in a collision with a tractor on Skipton Road.
He is in the intensive care unit at Bradford Royal and has had surgery on leg injuries.
He is out of danger & improving although still in need of further surgery.
Our best wishes go with Zip & Hannah & hope he has a speedy & full recovery.
JP says:
Get well soon Zip. Don’t be getting too use to the morphine pump……..but you can enjoy the euphoria while it lasts.

Not to detract from the seriousness of what happened – Those of you who are keen cycle enthusiasts will want to know that though the bike frame is a right off, most of the groupset and the rather excellent wheels are ok.
In fact the time trial organisers wanted to take the wheels home and get me to tell Zipp they had been unrecoverable – but they were from Colne so what do you expect.
Best wishes to both.

Zip – at least when I wrote my bike off the other week, I had the good sense to have it attached to the roof rack at the time rather than attached to me.
Seriously, I was very upset to hear what happened and we are all thinking of you and keeping our fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

Very sorry to hear about that – a sobering thought about the dangers on the roads for keen cyclists everywhere. We hope that Zip pulls through the operations and spell in hospital and gets back to sport soon.

Pete – he was he was flying, he beat me by a minute the last time we raced, this time I was on for a pb this season, I was his minute man and he passed me at 6 miles out of nowhere – I thought I was holding him off and he was a good 30 seconds ahead when the accident happened just past the Bradley turn. We all know he is a top athlete but as he only took up cycling last year (and I could beat him) he has improved immensely very quickly . If only we could talk him into to fell running.
Here’s to a future excellent time Zip.

Hannah says:
Just a quick & weary note to thank-you ALL for your wishes & thoughts; either by text, phone or here. He was clearly moved when i told him about the overwhelming support that continues to flow forth! Thank-you particularly to PaulS for his initial calm phone call & subsequent help & JP for his medical & reassuring knowledge during the emergency surgery.( I think I’ll decline, on Zip’s behalf, the offer of a bed bath! )
He is still in intensive care and the staff at BRI are doing an amazing job. He’s reasonably ‘perky’, positive and surprisingly aware, inspite of the morphine, of how lucky he has been.
Secondary surgery is hopefully planned for next week.
I’ll update as and when things progress.
Thank-you all again,
Hannah

Very sorry to hear of the accident Hannah. I only found out today. Please give Zip a big kiss from me (no tongues though), and pass on my best wishes for a speedy recovery.
I was thinking of purchasing a bike in the near future to join the ever increasing cycling fraternity but this has completely put paid to that. I think I’ll stick to my running and knitting.

Thanks Dick. Managed to tune into the website and would echo all of the best wishes to Zip for a speedy recovery. I’m sure given his level of fitness and general attitude that his recovery will be quicker than most and that he’ll soon be flying along again, albeit with more than one eye on agricultural plant. A thin line between safety and accident (as we found on the streets of Naples and as Charlie found out with that other tractor near Hawes) but the key thing about being fit is the capacity to bounce back. When we get back I’ll get Tizz to pop into BRI with a bag of fruit for you Zip, and I guarantee you’ll be out of there quicker than you ever dreamed possible!! Take care. John, Tizz, Pat & George

Thank-you again for your continued support.
Many of you have asked about visiting; at this stage he’s still in an extreme amount of pain, consequently this is calling upon all his reserves and he needs to rest. He’s waiting for the secondary surgery to close the initial wounds, after this I’m sure he will be really pleased to accept all offers of sloppy kisses, bed baths and general running & bike chitty-chat!!
I’ll update when the surgery is completed.
Thanks again
