Keighley and Craven Beginners Group train at Greenhead School in Keighley every Thursday from 6.30pm.
The group is made up of about 30 runners who all want a taste of running whether it be to get fit, lose weight or to just have fun.
Richard Taylor, who runs the group, said: “The sessions are specifically geared up for people who want to start running or improve their running.
“The group is a really mixed bunch, from those who have never pulled on a pair of trainers to others who want to improve and progress.”
Many members take their children to the junior section and the runs are timed so the group is back to pick them up.
Over the past year some members have taken part in events including the Keighley 10k in March 2009.
As part of training for this Richard organises runs on some Sunday’s for those who want to go a bit further and try running in different areas.
Richard added: “I would invite anyone to come along and give it a go. There is a really supportive and friendly atmosphere and you won’t be left behind.”
The sessions cost £1 each. For more details contact Wendy Holder on 07779 696511 or Richard Taylor on 07982 730196.
Total Beginners
To help me out with the new participants in the group and to welcome them, Jill Bell and Vicky Young have kindly offered to take any total beginners under their wing on any of the longer run sessions.
Both ladies are very enthusiastic about running and will pass on good advice to the new starters. Thanks to you both for this help.
Tuesday Runs
These runs are aimed at increasing the runners base endurance levels and are run at a steady pace over distances of up to 4.5 miles around Keighley. At present we have no real time limits due to no need to collect children from the junior section. All are welcome but check with Richard that you will be able to complete the run.
Sunday Runs
Again looking at improving the base endurance levels of the participants, these runs take place on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays of every month starting each time at 9:30 am, throughout the year. The runs depending on weather are from 5 to 9 miles, again at a steady pace with plenty of stops. The aim is to run from different start points around the Keighley area each time so that the ladies will learn where they can run in their local area.
Maps of the routes will be made available and can be seen on the KACAC Ladies page on Facebook. The next run is on the 15th November starting at Penistone Hill and out to Top Withins and back. Starting 9:30am.
