2024
In 2024 we supported a Leeds based Charity, Candlelighters of Leeds becoming our Charity of the Year. We were linked with one of their volunteer ambassadors, David Slater, who is also a keen runner. NB - he has run 10k a day since January 2023 to raised funds and awareness of Candlelights, as of August he was 600 days in!!!!
Through our fundraising at the two Track Mile events, the Charity quiz night, donations from the Junior Presentations night, and donations following club races, (Lothersdale, Yorkshireman, Bronteway), we have raised £1430 so far this year.
2023
In 2023 the club chose another local organisation, Homeless Not Hopeless (HNH) who work with homeless and destitute people in the Bradford Area. In addition to financial donations, we regularly collected food and suitable clothes, to pass on to HNH, for use in their weekly outreach events. Money was raised via Race Directors, Track Mile events, a quiz night, a 24 hour cycle-a-thon, and filling (and decorating) Christmas Tote Bags. Some donated their time to assist in supermarket collections and helping in Outreach Work. I think we all gained a much better insight into the plight of homeless and destitute people with our HNH links. We continue to collect clothes, footwear and food for HNH, usually on the first Tuesday club night of each month. Please speak to a committee member if you have things to donate.
2022
In 2022 it was agreed that Manorlands would be our 'Charity of the Year'. Sadly Manorlands and the need to use a hospice, impacts on so many of us at sometime in our lives. We built good connections with Manorlands and supported them financially through the year with funds from club run events like the Track Mile events, club races, a charity Quiz night and donations from Race Directors from profits made on their events. Over £2000 was raised for Manorlands directly through KCAC.
2021
In autumn 2021 a paper was agreed at committee level, which was ratified at the 2022 AGM.
We agreed that:
· We would support the Keighley Imagination Library initially for two years by paying £25 a month. This organisation buys books for pre-school children in local households, who have little or no access to books. This followed a request from local headmaster and club member, Dick Ballantyne. NB at the AGM of 2023 and 2024 it was agreed we continue this monthly donation.
· That the club would be invited to nominate and then vote on a Charity of the Year to support for the next year.
· That a voluntary levy be asked at membership renewal of £2 to be directed to the Charity of the year.
